It is from this ethos that springs my real, deep, dislike and anger toward people who treat The Art and The Craft as though it’s Dungeons and Dragons 2nd edition. The struggle to grasp even a single thread in the tapestry of the spirit world is a serious one, and the effort devoted to it is very real. Discarding that, or pretending toward it strikes me as anathema (like burning books, painting an antique table with high-gloss latex house paint, or inviting yourself to a bite of my dinner).

To approach my niche in the world is like approaching a foreign kingdom. One travels through the villages of the smallfolk first - and one would do best to treat them as kings in their own land. And eventually, one meets the various regents and nobility. And perhaps, by that point, one has truly earned the right to be among them - to entreat or speak with them. And hopefully has learned to behave in a way that does not lead to beheading or imprisonment.

Because it’s best to remember that even the most noble, altruistic, and righteous king has in his retinue some fellow or other that is hot tempered, slow to forgive, and carries a large, sharp, axe.

a little bit of hard work paid off, so I get to dedicate today to the Temple. It’s very nearly complete. I have to start by scrubbing my too-much-hair first in a bathtub full of peppermint, rosemary and sage.

on the community front, I put our house up on CouchSurfing.com (under the name HouseInAGreenPlace). I doubt we’ll get many visitors because Brasstown is not exactly on route to anywhere important. I wish we could get some short term visitors to help us with the building of the coop and the garden preparation, but I couldn’t sign up for WWOOFing because we don’t have anything growing yet (apparently the indoor garden doesn’t count). The landlady even agreed to let us have goats now, but it’s probably not going to happen until late this year or the beginning of next year.

This is Samhainween?

beyond-the-wand:

It’s commonly known that our holiday of Halloween originated from the Celtic festival of Samhain.

But did it?

In fact… probably not.  Samhain was an exclusively Irish festival, and there’s no evidence that it even remotely resembled our Halloween.  As far as the claim that the Church deliberately “replaced” Samhain with Halloween, even that doesn’t hold up.

"Omnipresent Lambodara, pure and peaceful doer of all good. Take away my fear and anger. Let me see Thee everywhere and at all times. Show me the truth that there is no intrinsic evil. Remove all barriers in my mind to understanding, true trust and love. Guide me to a harmonious life and righteous success in the fulfillment of my dharma. Ganesha sharanam, sharanam Ganesha."

Sometimes I feel myself drifting towards the “Ehhh, this stuff isn’t real” camp, but then I suddenly start making my daily goals with writing with 1/10th of the effort it took me all these months to just get a few sentences out each day and the only thing that has changed was the fact that I finally built a real altar to Saraswati, my Literal Patron Deity because she is divine inspiration in creative acts including writing.

Man, sometimes I just hit myself upside the head with it all. It would be different if writing was a hobby or a creative outlet, but I support me, my partner and three cats who eat too much completely with it. ITS KIND OF IMPORTANT. So now I will light the candles, refill the lotus bowl with fresh clean water and chant the Saraswati beej mantra before I get down to work each day…

Green Bear + me in my fox costume at the best Beltane Ritual ever. The ritual involved dancing the Time Warp, calling in the by mambos and techno-Mayans and V from V for Vendetta, and the maypole was 40 feet tall this year.

"Path working is taking two preconditioned factors of consciousness, associating them so as to produce a calculated result, and then continuing the line of pressure into a different dimension of awareness."
